Mohawk Valley Residents Clean Up Around the House

On November 1, 2003 the Mohawk Watershed Partnership joined Lane County Waste Management and the Mohawk Valley Rural Fire District to hold a Household Hazardous Waste Round Up in Marcola. The event was a great success! Sixty-seven residents hauled 6,220 pounds of hazardous waste to the event. Items collected included: oil-based paint (3,240 lbs.), latex paint (1,400 lbs.), flammable aerosols (580 lbs.), solvents (240 lbs.), poisons (420 lbs.), acids, bases, misc. (240 lbs.), and reuse items (100 lbs.).

Thank you to all the Mohawk Valley residents who took the time to clean out the garage, shop or shed and dispose of all those chemicals properly, and also to the volunteers who helped with the planning and execution of this event. The Partnership would also like to thank Lane County Waste Management for providing this service and to the Mohawk Valley Rural Fire District for hosting the event. If you were not able to make it in on November 1, you can still dispose of those old chemicals in a responsible way. Lane County accepts Household Hazardous wastes at the Glenwood Transfer Site (3100 E. 17th Ave.) in Eugene every Thursday and the second Saturday of the month. Please call 682-4120 for more information and to make an appointment.

Residents Bring Household Hazardous Wastes to October 2002 Roundup

On Saturday, October 26th, a "Household Hazardous Waste Roundup" was held at the Leaburg Firestation. During the event, ninety-six households disposed of 9,260 pounds of waste. The most common item received was paint - 3,020 pounds of latex paint and 4,200 pounds of oil-based paint were collected. Other items collected included: poisons (750 lbs.), flammable liquids/solvents (665 lbs.), acids (190 lbs.), Caustic items (60 lbs.), flammable aerosols (125 lbs.), poison aerosols (40 lbs.), oxidizers (60 lbs.), motor oil (125 lbs.), and antifreeze (25 lbs.). This is material that otherwise would have entered our landfills. Good riddance! This event was sponsored by the McKenzie Watershed Council, McKenzie Fire & Rescue, and Lane County Public Works. If you would like information about disposing hazardous wastes, call the Lane County Waste Management Division at 682-4120.
