Watershed is a universal term and can apply to river systems of all
sizes, ranging from the Columbia River down to the small tributary
flowing in your backyard. In order to provide some organization to
the multitude of embedded watersheds the United States Geologic
Survey (USGS) divides the United States into hydrologic units and gives them
each an eight digit Hydrologic Unit Code (HUC). Although the HUC codes
are unique, the names associated with each level of hierarchy are
