Mohawk Watershed Partnership

The Mohawk Watershed Partnership - History and Organization

History

The Mohawk Watershed Partnership is a group of citizens who have worked together for years to encourage voluntary actions that will improve environmental conditions in the Mohawk Watershed. In 1997, a resident of the Mohawk watershed involved with the McKenzie Watershed Council decided to form a group at the Mohawk level. This effort was undertaken with the feeling that sound natural resource management must include local community input. Potential Partnership board members throughout the valley were contacted, and, remarkably, all agreed to join. The addition of a part-time watershed coordinator position (maintained with funding assistance from the McKenzie Watershed Council) has helped to sustain the activities of the Partnership.

Organization

The Partnership meets at 7:00 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month at the Mohawk High School library, 38300 Wendling Road, Marcola. Meetings are open to the public.

Partnership decisions are made by a twelve-member board. Board members serve for a term of four years. Rotations of board members are staggered to maintain continuity, resulting in three position vacancies each year. Elections are held at the Partnership's annual Meeting in June each year. Current Board members are:

  • Diane Albino
  • Kay Allen
  • Jack Barrowcliff
  • Lee Downing
  • Kim Craig Eichorn
  • Donna Heath
  • Karren Lansky
  • Lynn Larry
  • Linda Mooney
  • Burt Smith
  • Kevin Smith
  • Chuck Volz
General membership is made up of an ever-changing partnership of interested people involved in the Mohawk watershed. Membership is open to anyone. Members pay annual dues and attend at least three meetings in the twelve months prior to the Annual Meeting in order to vote for Board members and other issues brought to the Annual Meeting.

The Partnership's four standing committees offer a great opportunity for involvement in the Partnership. Committee members do not need to be Partnership members. The five standing committees are the

  • Executive Committee
  • Education and Outreach Committee
  • Project Committee
  • Citizen Water Quality Monitoring Team

Ad-hoc committees are formed as needed.
