Phase I of the North Fork Gate Creek Floodplain Enhancement Project will improve river function, habitat conditions, and water quality on a 0.7-mile reach of North Fork Gate Creek affected by the Holiday Farm Fire of 2020. Riparian forests that experience stand-replacement fire represent a threat to critical habitats for native species and the protection of water quality, and the creation of logjams within the creek channel and along the banks will help retain post-fire sediment and debris while enhancing fish habitat.
