We are excited to introduce our newly formed scholarship designed to support high school graduates in obtaining an undergraduate degree in natural resource-related fields. As teachers for over 30 years, Anne and Stuart Perlmeter have worked with many students living in economically challenging situations. For some students, attending college can have many challenges and become a difficult choice. One challenge eager high school graduates face is the lack of money needed for attending college. The Perlmeters have developed a scholarship to provide additional financial support to up to four students each year through 4 years of college.
The total amount of the scholarship is $15,000 across a four year period. The scholarship may be combined with other funding sources such as federal and state grants and other scholarships. Possible uses for the scholarship funds include tuition, living expenses (housing/meal plans or groceries/utilities), technology needed for classes, and required books and supplies. Funds will be dispersed over a four year period (Year 1-2: $3,000, Year 3: $4,000, Year 4: $5,00). Our goal is to support one new student, annually. Each student will receive four years of funding. To make this happen, we need $15,000 annually. With Anne and Stuart’s contribution of $5,000 we need to raise an additional $10,000 each year. To date, Anne and Stuart have contributed $15,000 to the McKenzie Natural Resource Scholarship fund and the first scholarship recipient started her program at the University of Puget Sound in Washington.
We are asking for support, financially and by spreading the word. The scholarship fund benefits from one-time donations and annual donations. All donations are tax deductible. Checks can be mailed to the address below (please indicate scholarship fund on your check) or through the McKenzie Watershed Council PayPal link below (please indicate scholarship fund in the PayPal notes section).
We are deeply grateful for your consideration, contribution, and support. For more information contact Stuart Perlmeter at: stuart@mckenziewc.org or by phone at 541-912-1618
